Tell Me Lies Season 2 Episode 7 Review (2024)

It’s safe to say the kids are not alright on Tell Me Lies Season 2 Episode 7, “I’m Not Drowning Fast Enough. These people are mess, mess, messy!

One of the things this series is good at is making sure there is more than enough drama to keep viewers hooked.

If you want to know if you’re reading or watching a good story, ask yourself how many emotional reactions you’ve had. I just about experienced every feeling there is in this episode of Tell Me Lies!

Don’t worry—we’re going to get into it, but I have to ask: What are these writers doing with these characters?! It’s incredible but somehow physically exhausting.

There was so much that happened in “I’m Not Drowning Fast Enough,” where do we even start with this Costco amount of petty drama?

It Took Seven Episodes, But Bree And Oliver Are Finally Having An Affair

It only took the entire second season, but Bree and Oliver are finally having an affair. I know, by definition, they have been for a while, but come on.

For the previous six episodes, Bree and Oliver have been the most uninteresting part of the story. The writers even had to bring in Lucy’s judgmental ass to add some life to the most boring coupling.

I still believe Bree should be with Evan, even if he has gone stalker mode. Still, this affair hardly seems worth the trouble and eventual trauma it will cause.

The relationship has gone from barely a sizzle to a full-blown inferno with one episode. That’s quite the turnaround in the writing, and I’m not mad about it.

Watching Oliver (Tom Ellis) and Bree (Catherine Missal) do it in the laundry room while Oliver’s wife was hosting a Christmas party was a level of discomfort I was unprepared for.

Not to mention how unbelievably degrading it was to Bree. However, nothing was as shocking as her leaving her earrings for Oliver’s wife to find.

Well, almost nothing. When Marianne came into the classroom with Bree’s earrings on, my jaw hit the floor! Bree looked like someone had run her dog over in front of her.

You know that sinking feeling you get in your stomach when you get horrible news? Like your organs are about to fall out of your butt? That is the vibe of Tell Me Lies.

Then, there are the two characters who have genuine problems rather than dealing with disastrous situations of their own design.

Of course, I’m talking about Wrigley and Pippa. Their characters are the only ones who are blameless for the issues they are currently facing.

I have nothing but sympathy for Pippa (Sonia Mena). That poor girl has been through it this season! The way the writers were able to infuse so much of Pippa’s arc throughout Season 2 has been genius.

The most impressive part is how the show captures the mindset and reality of 2008. It was a completely different world that was barely dipping its toe into progress.

For instance, gay marriage wouldn’t be legal for another seven years. Suffice it to say that autonomy and agency were not the top priorities for society at the time.

Like what happened in Tell Me Lies Season 2 Episode 7, everyone thought the assault charges were lies and that the girls were trying to save her reputation.

Some days, the U.S. seems to be struggling to progress, while other days, it seems to have come so far in a short amount of time. That’s life. It always keeps you guessing.

From Annoying Jock Cliche To The Biggest Growth, Wrigley Is The MVP Of Tell Me Lies Season 2

Wrigley, oh, Wrigley. That big, lovable buffoon just about broke my heart in this episode. You can’t tell me those weren’t real tears!

Okay, they may have been a little forced, but Spencer House went for it when he broke down in front of Sonia Mena’s Pippa. I absolutely love this arc for Wrigley.

At the beginning of Tell Me Lies Season 2, I kept asking what does Wrigley bring to the story other than the cliche jock trope?

The writers were one step ahead of me because the listless floundering about one’s future is VERY real. Even kids who know what they want when they start college can lose their motivation and direction.

To top it off, Wrigley’s little brother still won’t talk to him, but at least we’re seeing the series acknowledge Wrigley’s mental health struggles.

And yet, with all these things going on in that big, beautiful boy’s life, he still takes a moment to call out Stephen’s shady, shifting ways.

Diana Needs To Love Herself And Stop Outsourcing

How and why is Diana still with Stephen? What is wrong with this intelligent and capable woman that she can’t see she is dating a sociopath? He’s clearly using her.

It did occur to me during this episode that Diana may be attracted to Stephen’s crappy personality because he reminds her of her dad.

That guy sucks. Who makes their child’s life a living hell for failing one test?!

Tell Me Lies Season 2 Episode 7 Review (6)

Thankfully, we just have to be patient because we know Pippa and Diana (Alicia Crowder) are headed for their own coupling.

Although, judging by the shocked reactions in Tell Me Lies Season 2 Episode 7 in the future, either Pippa and Diana don’t get together for a while, or everyone was just surprised to see Diana there.

Damn it if this series doesn’t have me putting together theories like it’s an episode of Agatha All Along.

I’m still rooting for Diana, but the girl needs to spend some time loving herself instead of outsourcing.

Lucy Is Dropping One Nuclear Bomb After Another As We Head Into The Finale

Speaking of loving yourself, what the hell is going on with Miss Lucy?! She made one wrong decision after another in this episode.

Tell Me Lies Season 2 Episode 7 Review (7)

The show may be called Tell Me Lies, but she was SO wrong for lying about what happened to Pippa to make it seem like it happened to her. She may be young, but she’s not an idiot.

I literally closed my eyes and shouted, “What are you doing, woman?!” at my TV. Also, where does Lucy get off judging Bree and her dull-ass affair? Girl put the oxygen mask on yourself first.

At the end of the episode, Stephen (Jackson White) comes to her room. Then, the psycho spills his “heart” to her about how she needs to be with him because she loves him despite his awful personality.

That level of narcissism floored me. Since the episode ended before Lucy could react, we have no idea what will happen next.

I will tell you right now that if Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen get back together in the next episode, my review will not be holding back any punches.

With the next episode being the Tell Me Lies Season 2 finale, anything and everything could happen. Hell, someone else could be dead by the end.

Tell Me Lies Season 2 Episode 7 Review (8)

Whatever the case, I know this show will have another intense cliffhanger like Tell Me Lies Season 1 ending. And I’ll be eating up every moment!

Did you cry with Wrigley when he broke down?

How did those final moments of this episode make you feel?
