Worried about Meta Quest 2 connected no internet issue? This typically indicates an issue with your network!
The Oculus Quest 2 connects to the wireless network, which enables the device to access all of the online features for even greater entertainment.
However, when your Oculus Quest remains connected to the WiFi, but the access to the internet is gone, you need some troubleshooting…
When your Oculus Quest 2 is connected to the WiFi, but there is no internet connection, you must verify that your broadband is working and reconnect your Oculus VR headset. Also, we recommend switching to another WiFi frequency.
Let’s continue to unwrap!
Why Oculus Quest 2 Connected to WiFi But No Internet?
The fundamental reason why your Oculus Quest 2 is connected to the wireless network but the internet connection is not available, is because your broadband may be down.
Whenever your WiFi is not supplied with an internet connection, your devices remain connected but are still offline.
Hence, whenever the internet access to your network router/hub/modem is interrupted, the WiFi remains activated but, let’s say, “empty.”
Thus, your Oculus Quest appears “connected” but will still be offline, especially when your network is down.
But this is not necessarily the cause. There are many more:
- The broadband/internet connection is offline/down.
- Too much distance between your Quest and router.
- The current WiFi frequency channel is overcrowded.
- Your Oculus Quest 2 is running on an outdated OS.
- There is wireless interference impacting your Quest.
How to Fix When Quest 2 Connected No Internet?
Tip: Follow the solution steps consecutively!
1. Shorten Your Wireless Proximity!
The first and easiest step is to simply move closer to the wireless router and check whether this will optimize the WiFi connection.
To take this approach one step further, test the Oculus Quest WiFi connection while standing next to your wireless router.
This will help you immediately identify whether the issue comes from a too-great distance between the Oculus Quest 2 and your WiFi router.
Tip: If your wireless connection improves when moving closer to your router, consider relocating the router to a centralized position.
2. Power Cycle Router and Headset
The next step is to reboot both your router and Oculus Quest headset by turning off the devices and allowing them to discharge.
The so-called “power cycle” won’t erase anything from the units but will refresh their operating system and hopefully restore the device’s access to the internet.
How to Power Cycle Oculus Headset?
- Verify that the Oculus Quest headset is working.
- Press and hold the “Power” button on the right.
- Release the button when your Oculus turns off.
- Wait for 60 seconds and power on your Quest.
- Connect the VR headset to power for 5 minutes.
In the meantime…
How to Power Cycle Network Router?
- Make sure that your wireless router is working.
- Press and hold the power button on the back.
- When the lights go off, unplug the A/C adapter.
- Wait for 60 seconds with the router unplugged.
- Reconnect the A/C adapter directly to the wall.
- Turn on your WiFi router and wait for 3 minutes.
Tip: When your WiFi network is available, test whether you can access online content from your Oculus and a secondary device such as a smartphone.
3. Reconnect Oculus Quest to WiFi
Sometimes, the reason why Oculus Quest 2 connected no internet, is on the headset’s side, due to a fault with the connection establishment.
So, one of the most effective ways to address connection issues would be to disconnect from the WiFi (Forget) and reconnect from scratch.
Here’s how to forget and reconnect to WiFi on Oculus Quest 2:
- Enter the “Quick Settings” on the right side of the dock.
- Select the “Wi-Fi” square on the right of the settings tab.
- Then, select the WiFi saying “Connected” on the bottom.
- From the prompt that will appear, select the “Forget” tab.
- Info: This will disconnect the Oculus Quest from the WiFi.
- Then, from the list, select the same wireless SSID again.
- Insert the correct password to connect to the WiFi thread.
When your Oculus Quest 2 is reconnected to the WiFi, test whether the internet connection works; if not, continue reading.
4. Switch to Another WiFi Frequency
The Oculus Quest 2 headset supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi networks, so you can connect to both threads of a dual-band router.
There is a difference between the WiFi threads, thus, you may need to switch from one to another to optimize and uplift the headset’s internet connection.
- If your router is dual-band and you have more than one WiFi, then one is 2.4 GHz, and the other is 5 GHz measured in frequency.
The 2.4 GHz WiFi is better if you’re away from the WiFi router because this frequency covers much more ground in your home than the 5 GHz WiFi frequency.
However, for gaming, it’s recommended to use the faster 5 GHz WiFi, but you must be closer to the router to avoid interruption.
So, feel free to switch from one to another to test the difference.
Reminder: Stay as close to the WiFi router as possible while testing!
5. Share & Connect to Mobile Hotspot
When your Oculus Quest 2 is connected to the WiFi, but there is no internet connection, you can identify the cause of the problem immediately if you have a hotspot.
The personal hotspot is a feature that most smartphones support nowadays, but the device must be registered to a cellular operator.
So, if you have a SIM-enabled device and mobile data, go to Settings and select “Internet Sharing & Tethering” or “Personal Hotspot.”
When you share a hotspot from a smartphone, use the instructions earlier in the guide to connect your Oculus Quest to the personal WiFi.
Note: If your Oculus Quest 2 is online when connected to the personal hotspot, the problem comes from your WiFi or broadband connection.
6. Charge Your Oculus Quest 2 Fully!
The next step is as simple as charging your VR headset, but it is the final one before the factory reset, so it’s worth taking your time.
Sometimes, essential features of the headset, such as the network connectivity, could be disabled due to low battery or a battery throttle with the Quest.
- So, charge your Oculus Quest 2 for at least 45 minutes!
When the Oculus Quest is sufficiently charged, test whether the device can access online apps and games to justify whether the internet works.
If the same problem continues, then it’s time to address the matter, so continue with the next step…
7. Factory Reset Your Oculus Quest 2
If you’re confident that your internet and WiFi connection is intact, but the Oculus Quest is offline even when connected to the wireless network, it’s time for a factory reset.
This reset type is a last-resort measure because it will delete all games, apps, and settings from your headset.
Here’s how to factory reset your Oculus Quest 2 in easy steps:
- To factory reset the Quest Quest 2, first, turn it off.
- Then, locate the unit’s Power and Volume buttons.
- Press both buttons simultaneously for ∿10 seconds.
- When the boot menu shows, select “Factory Reset.”
- Use the Volume button to hover and Power to select.
- Choose “Yes” to start the factory reset and then wait.
When your Oculus Quest 2 is reset to factory defaults, you will need to carry out the initial setup by configuring the on-screen steps and connecting the device to WiFi.
When you’re ready, test if the Oculus Quest 2 is now online and whether the issue is still there.
Tip: Use the Cloud Backup feature on your Oculus Quest 2 to save backup your content!
